Celebrating Face-to-Face: The Mapúa Fest, Live Life in Color!

Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao held its annual acquaintance party for all students called “The Mapúa Fest 2022: Live Life in Color!” last September 30, 2022. The event was highlighted by the guest performances from local Davaoeño bands and performances from our very own students.

To start the day in the morning session of the Mapúa Fest, games and booths were set up at the Mapúa MCM Plaza and Play Court for the students to enjoy and win prizes. Students also showcased their talents in singing during the Open Mic Activity on stage.

The Malayan Dance Company opened the afternoon session with an amazing performance that set the mood for the rest of the fest. Entries from different year levels for the Flicks and Chill and Dance Chromatica contests were then showcased and awarded afterward.

Later in the afternoon, the students were treated with special guest performances from local artists such as Cerise, Ken Mariscal, and Dimes & Grind. DJ Nigel Braw, a Mapúa MCM alumnus, then got everyone hyped up during his set. Then, the celebrations closed off with bands 3AM and Nairud Sa Wabad.

“I had a wonderful time at the Mapúa Fest. It was first face-to-face event that I’ve been to at Mapúa MCM. It gave me an opportunity to meet different kinds of people and learn many things. The event organizers really did their best… There was also a photo booth to take pictures with my classmates, new friends, and teachers that will always remind us of this happy moment.” Ms. Princess Nicole Zia Luy (Grade 11 – STEM), who came all the way from Zamboanga City to experience the event, shared.

The Mapúa Fest was created with the MMCM community in mind; to let the students enjoy and be a part of vibrant student life on campus after two years of online learning. Participating in face-to-face social events enables students to meet new people who share common interests and build a sense of community.

With this in mind, the institution looks forward to more events centered on vibrant student life in the future. The Office for Student Services aims to provide Mapúans with activities and events that help in their self-growth, learning, and exploration as students and future professionals. For this year, the OSS is ready to conduct Wellness Wednesdays, Music Fridays, Financial Literacy series, One Heart – One Mapúan, and Pets Day, mostly conducted .

For the past two years, it has been a challenge for everyone. Now that we are back, we will make up for those two years and provide more activities that would encourage students to unleash their …” shared Mr. Charlymer Dingal from the Office for Student Services of Mapúa MCM.
