Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao RECEIVES ART DONATION FROM DR TEODY BOYLIE “BONG” PEREZ IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR THE CULTURE AND ARTS

Engr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo received the framed art prints amount P75,000 from Dr. Bong Perez in a turnover ceremony last November 16, 2020.

Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao recently received a donation of 25 framed art prints of original paintings and drawings from Dr. Teody Boylie “Bong” Perez for the Art Donation Project under the 2020 Competitive Grants Program of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) last November 16, 2020.

Dr. Bong Perez is a professor of the Humanities and Social Sciences Department in the University of the Philippines Mindanao, a Datu Bago Awardee in 2016, and an NCCA Grantee in 2020. He donated an estimated total of P75,000 worth of original pieces to display permanently in the offices and hallways of Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao. The framed art prints will be displayed along the entrance of the Library and in the Discussion Areas.

The collection is entitled “Indigent Lives” where stories of ordinary people are translated into masterfully crafted artworks, with the hopes of promoting the understanding of the struggles, needs, and social conditions of people who are living indigent lives. Dr. Perez aims to raise awareness on poverty, our country’s most significant challenges, by publicly showcasing an exhibit that reflects relevant cultural and political issues.

The artworks to be showcased at the MapúaMCM Library will also serve as a learning experience for the students which is the goal of the Art Donation Project. The participation of the students allows them to connect to the community, promoting interaction in public spaces to provide opportunities for people to meet and be exposed to a variety of neighbors.
