Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM) strengthened its global academic presence through its participation in the IEEE International Conference on Teaching, Assessment, and Learning for Engineering (IEEE TALE 2025) held at Macao Polytechnic University, Macao, China.

Organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Education Society, the conference gathered researchers and practitioners from higher education, vocational education and training, K-12, corporate, government, and healthcare sectors. It served as a platform to share innovations in engineering, technology, and STEAM education, with a focus on the integration of digital technologies in teaching, learning, and assessment.

Representing the institution, were high school faculty member Ms. Maricar Orzal, together with student researchers Mr. Xander Hugh Elcana a first year BS Chemical Engineering student, and Shieldane Flores, first year student of BS in Medical Technology presented their accepted paper titled “KUDAMAN as Digital Learning Innovation: Engaging Students with Arumanen Manobo Culture through Gamified Storytelling,” highlighting a culturally responsive and technology-driven approach to education on an international stage.

Mr. Elcana presents their research entitled, ““KUDAMAN as Digital Learning Innovation: Engaging Students with Arumanen Manobo Culture through Gamified Storytelling” in the IEEE TALE 2025.

Reflecting on the experience, Mr. Elcana shared “throughout the conference, we had the opportunity to engage with various researchers from around the world and learn how they integrated tools such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) into education. Presenting our research paper in one of their Lecture Theatres filled me with pride, as KUDAMAN gained international exposure and opened up a whole new opportunity for recognition.”

Similarly, Ms. Flores shared “Attending IEEE TALE 2025 was a really meaningful experience for me. It gave me the chance to see different ideas and perspectives beyond what we usually learn in class, and it honestly made me more motivated to contribute more to the field of research.”

Ms. Orzal shared “Participating in IEEE TALES 2025 has been a truly enriching experience. Listening to the keynote speakers further deepened my understanding of how powerful research can be when properly utilized and disseminated, especially in benefiting educators and learners.

I extend my sincere gratitude to Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM), particularly the Office of Research and Development and Innovation (ORDI), for their support. I am also grateful to Sir John Albert M. Nares for his dedication, time, and guidance in making this opportunity possible.”

Through this initiative, Mapúa MCM continues to expand its presence in global academic platforms while advancing research and innovation aligned with SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.
