BS Biology students and faculty gathered at the PGC for an immersive learning in genomics and biotechnology.
Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM) strengthened experiential learning through the Educational Tour of the Biology Program at the Philippine Genome Center Mindanao in UP Mindanao, Tugbok District, Davao City, providing students with direct exposure to genomics and its real-world applications.
Organized by the Student Institute of Mapúa Medical Biology (SIMMBIO) in partnership with the College of Health Sciences – Biology Department, the activity engaged 3rd Year BS Biology students. The tour aimed to deepen students’ understanding of genomics and its applications in research, healthcare, agriculture, and forensics in the Philippines, while exposing them to modern laboratory technologies and research facilities.
Third-year BS Biology students attended a comprehensive laboratory briefing as part of their genomics tour at the Philippine Genome Center Mindanao.
During the visit, students were welcomed by the Philippine Genome Center Mindanao heads and staff, who facilitated a laboratory briefing followed by a guided tour of the Omics Laboratory Services and Bioinformatics Services Division. The activity provided students with firsthand insights into current practices and innovations in genomic research, allowing them to observe advanced technologies and their applications in scientific studies.

The experience enabled students to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world practice, fostering a deeper appreciation for the role of genomics in advancing science, innovation, and national development, while also broadening their perspectives on future career pathways in the field.
