Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM) strengthened its commitment to research, innovation, and global academic engagement as Bachelor of Science in Architecture students Ms. Sierra Simone B. Jamilaren and Ms. Joelei Cassandra Marie A. Falcon participated in the 2nd International Conference on Innovative Structure and Resilient City (ISRC 2026), held from August 22 to 24, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand.
Organized by the ISRC 2026 Organizing Committee, the three-day international conference brought together researchers, engineers, industry experts, faculty members, students, and professionals to exchange knowledge and practical insights on innovative structures, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable urban development. The conference featured keynote presentations, technical sessions, academic discussions, and networking opportunities that encouraged international collaboration and the sharing of research-driven solutions to challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanization, extreme events, and aging infrastructure.
For the two Mapúa MCM representatives, the conference provided an opportunity to engage with international research and gain perspectives beyond the classroom. Ms. Falcon described the experience as eye-opening, particularly as it was her first time exploring Bangkok while attending an international academic conference. She also highlighted the organizers’ hospitality and the opportunity to discover the city’s architectural landmarks, cultural sites, and interconnected commercial spaces, making the trip both academically enriching and culturally memorable.
Meanwhile, Ms. Jamilaren shared that the acceptance of their research paper and the opportunity to participate in a conference abroad made their final academic year especially meaningful. Listening to other researchers and learning from their studies deepened her appreciation for academic exchange and encouraged her to remain curious, continue learning, and embrace opportunities for growth.
Their participation reflects Mapúa MCM’s continuing efforts to provide students with opportunities to broaden their academic perspectives, engage with the international research community, and explore innovative approaches to architecture and the built environment. These experiences also contribute to developing the knowledge and professional awareness needed to respond to evolving challenges in the field.
The participation of Mapúa MCM in ISRC 2026 aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through its emphasis on research and innovative approaches to resilient infrastructure, and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by promoting knowledge exchange on sustainable urban development and resilient cities.
