Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM) first-year Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering students visited ARC Refreshment Corporation, the manufacturer of RC Cola, on September 26, 2026, to gain firsthand exposure to industrial operations and the practical applications of mechanical engineering principles.

Organized by the College of Engineering and Architecture – BS Mechanical Engineering Program, the plant visit was attended by 25 first-year students. The activity aimed to connect classroom learning with actual industry practices by introducing students to machinery operations, manufacturing processes, equipment maintenance, and engineering systems within a beverage production facility.

The visit began with a discussion on company safety and operations, emphasizing the importance of workplace safety and operational procedures in industrial environments. The students then toured the plant’s water treatment facility, where they gained insights into the processes involved in preparing water for beverage production.

The students also visited the production line to observe manufacturing operations and learn how equipment and engineering systems support the production process. Their itinerary included a visit to the facility’s power generation area, providing further exposure to the systems that support industrial operations. To conclude the visit, students participated in product output tasting and assessment, followed by a feedback session and the distribution of tokens of appreciation.

Engr. Renato Mariquit, Plant Manager of ARC Refreshment Corporation, served as a key representative during the activity, providing students with an opportunity to gain insights into the facility’s operations and industrial practices.

The plant visit supports Mapúa MCM T4: The Career Readiness Framework, which prepares students for the workforce through relevant skills, practical experiences, and industry exposure. By observing actual manufacturing processes and engineering systems, students were able to relate theoretical concepts to real-world applications and gain an early understanding of workplace standards, operational procedures, and technical responsibilities. These experiences contribute to developing the technical competencies, adaptability, and professional awareness expected of career-ready graduates.

Through industry-based learning opportunities, Mapúa MCM continues to strengthen the connection between academic preparation and professional practice. The activity also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education through experiential learning; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by familiarizing students with industrial practices and professional environments; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through engagement between the institution and industry partners.
