MapúaMCM RESILIEMC Project Procures Sequent Wins in Two Research Conferences

Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao bags back-to-back awards in research competitions. Ms. Charisse B. Miguel, a RESILIEMC Project Researcher under MapúaMCM’s Office for Research, Development, and Innovation won the Poster Exhibit Competitions during the 11th Health R&D Expo last November 15-16, 2021, and during the International Symposium on Interdisciplinary Approaches in Health 2021 (ISIAH 2021) on December 8-9, 2021, both held online via Zoom.

The 11th Health R&D Expo was led by the Regional Health Research and Development Consortium XI (RHRDC XI) and partnered with the Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI). With this year’s theme, “Health R&D Solutions in the Fight Against Covid-19,” the expo focused on creating a platform for the research community to put their health research undertakings forward through posters and oral presentations.

The presentation was based on the paper which Ms. Miguel, the presenter, co-authored with Davao-based researchers entitled, “Risk Factors Associated with Severity and Survivability of Covid-19 Patients: Empirical Evidence from Davao Region.” The presentation placed third in the Poster Exhibit Competition Graduate Category.

“The RESILIEMC Project aims to design, develop, and deploy a risk-based decision support system to manage all COVID-19-related data to assist leaders in mitigating the threats of the pandemic,” Ms. Miguel explained their research.

ISIAH 2021, on the other hand, was spearheaded by the Center for Applied Modeling, Data Analytics, and Bioinformatics for Decision Support Systems in Health (AMDABiDSS-Health). Its theme, “Strengthening Capacity for Early Warning, Risk Reduction, and Management of National and Global Health Risks for Public Health Decision Support System,” aimed at promoting health-related studies in the country and advocates for collaborations among local and international researchers especially on the provision of public health decision support systems.

The poster presentation entry by Ms. Miguel on “Risk Factors Associated with Covid-19 Infection in Selected Regions of Mindanao, Philippines” won the MapúaMCM RESILIEMC Project Best E-Poster Award.

“Hopefully the result of RESILIEMC project will provide a coordinated and innovative response to COVID-19 alongside the different sectors in Mindanao,” Ms. Miguel said, aspiring for collaborative effort among the community in working through the challenges brought about by the pandemic.

Ms. Charisse B. Miguel is one of the RESILIEMC Project Researchers of MapúaMCM ORDI. Their research initiative, Risk management and Enhanced Survivability analysis Integrated through analysis of Longitudinal Infectious disease data and statistical Epidemiological Model using Clinical risk factors (RESILIEMC), is a project headed by MapúaMCM under the DOST-NICER-funded research, Applied Modeling, Data Analysis, and Bioinformatics for Decision Support Systems in Health (AMDABiDSS-Health).
