Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao will host this year’s Sustainable Davao Research Symposium on November 11, 2022, with the theme “Enhancing Sustainability and Climate Action for Davao Region through SDG-Oriented Studies”. It will be organized by the Sustainable Davao Movement (SDM) in collaboration with Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao, Mindanao Times, and Mindanao Development Authority.
“SDG-driven research is vital in Davao Region’s progressive advancement. This premise motivates Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao to produce evidence-based recommendations from the relevant studies made by our students and faculty. We are glad to share and contribute such recommendations through this symposium with the intent of supporting our leaders in governance in making well-informed decisions,” Dr. Gernelyn Logrosa, Head of the Office for Research, Development, and Innovation of MMCM said.

To broaden the scope and audience of development and to firmly establish the sustainable development goals, the organizers also chose to include other provinces and cities within the Davao Region.
By encouraging the adoption and localization of the Sustainable Development Goals in the Davao Region and the rest of South-Central Mindanao, this symposium hopes to improve the replication of sustainable living practices.
All Junior High School, Senior High School, College, and graduate students, faculty, and researchers at private or public universities, non-government organizations, or for-profit businesses in the Davao Region are eligible to submit an abstract for the research symposium.

The symposium is only open to finished research products that include thorough findings and suggestions. For this activity, the organizers discourage ongoing research and thesis proposals. Published studies are welcome to participate.
“We call for researchers, students, or professionals to submit their studies to us, these will be showcased and hopefully adopted by regional or local government policies, plans, and programs,” EnP. Lemuel Lloyd Manalo, IDIS Program Coordinator, said.
The abstract submission deadline is set for October 28, 2022, or earlier. On October 31, the selected studies will be announced, and on November 11 of the same year, the paper will be presented. Representatives from the Office of Mindanao Development Authority and other legislators from the Davao Region who may adopt or support recommendations for policies based on research for the region’s sustainability will be on the panel.
