MOA Signing: MapúaMCM, Hydroflask and Parkland

Reduction of Single Use Plastic Movement: An Advocacy with MapúaMCM, Hydroflask and Parkland

On November 13, 2019, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao became the first school in the Philippines to sign a memorandum of agreement with Hydroflask and Parkland – brands exclusively distributed by the Primer Group of Companies – to further advance their shared advocacy in the reduction of single use plastics.

Engr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo, Executive Vice President of Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao; Ms. Maria Estrella H. Sanchez and Mr. Roland Jae Patalita, Cluster Operations Head in Mindanao and Cluster Sales Head of Primer Group of Companies respectively, were in attendance for the MOA signing.

Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao academic staff in attendance were Dr. Flora Mae C. Yparraguirre, Senior High School Principal; Engr. Rachel C. Villanueva, Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture and OIC (Officer-in-Charge) of the College of Arts and Sciences; Ms. Rhodessa J. Cascaro, Dean of the College of Computer and Information Science; Ms. Liezel S. Lopez, Head of the Center for Guidance and Counseling and Director of the Office for Student Services; and Engr. Rolando V. Bitor, Assistant Vice President for Administration; and Ms. Astrid A. Cuezon, Head of the Corporate Communications Office, along with the Corporate Communications documentation team and student volunteers and observers.

Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao’s advocacy in reducing plastic trash has been active since it began operations in 2018. Projects like the Plastic Pitch-In Drive have materialized in an effort to recycle plastic trash and convert them into chairs for public schools. In this brand new partnership with Hydroflask and Parkland – two global eco-friendly brands familiar with the cutback on single use plastics advocacy – there is a mutual goal to advance this endeavor.

Both parties have made an agreement to collaborate on the Reduction of Single Use Plastic Movement through MapúaMCM’s involvement in the process of collecting and providing plastic bottles through student and employee donations, and through a venue partnership that allows usage of the school’s facilities for a future inter-school symposium. Hydroflask and Parkland will be conducting events at MapúaMCM and providing product discounts in return.

“The main goal is to collaborate and to help out the beautiful thing that Mapúa has started which is to encourage the students and hopefully the public to help reduce in the usage of single-use plastics by either donating those instead of throwing it away or buying products that are recycling these single use plastics, and it’s very appropriate because we have products like that.” — Maria Estrella H. Sanchez, Primer Group of Companies Cluster Operations Head in Mindanao

Along with this, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao launches its #FindSolutions campaign which focuses on finding solutions to the pressing issues that plague our everyday lives — issues like water pollution from single-used plastics and lack of school equipment in some public schools are few of the many problems the school wishes to tackle through this campaign. Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao, through its many offices and partners, is on the move to helping solve or alleviate these problems one solution at a time; creating a space for students to be both academically and socially-aware.
