Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM) concluded a month-long cultural exchange initiative with a heartwarming Despedida and Culmination Program held on July 9, 2025, at the Mapúa MCM Plaza. This final gathering marked the culmination of five vibrant weeks of shared learning, cross-cultural dialogue, and meaningful connections forged between visiting students from the United States and the Mapúa MCM community.

The culminating event, titled “StuMo Exchange Celebration,” served as both a tribute and a send-off for the participants from Kansas State University, the University of Missouri, Northwest Missouri State University, and the University of Nebraska. These students were accompanied by staff from Student Mobilization (StuMo) Philippines, Inc, a US-based student organization committed to student development and international outreach. Throughout their stay, they actively engaged in immersive activities aimed at promoting global understanding and cultural appreciation.

The program also honored the commitment and enthusiasm of Mapúa MCM student volunteers who played an integral role throughout the exchange period. Representing various departments and student organizations, the following individuals were recognized for their contributions: Rizza Birondo, Julius Simene, Rana Cayanong Giebe, Joshua Monajan, Sarah Simbajon, Althea Teodoro, Jhoanna Alegre, Patricia Mae Alfonso, Therese Rose Lao, and Annika Cabania. From the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA), additional volunteers included Gavin Jailo, Edmark Pitiquen, Mac Jacinto, Arnel Aguilar, Joshua Paeldonia, Justin Menor, Lazer Coelho, Zane Tan, Andrei Butulan, Krissa Bilo, Sheezeil Dalumpines, MJ Medico, Nicole Tabada, Brisbane Composano, Chico Halangdon, Ysabel Castro, and Mark Encendencia.

The final week’s activities were made possible through the joint efforts of the Office for Corporate Partnerships – Center for International Programs (OCP-CIP) and the College of Engineering and Architecture(CEA). Special guest Engr. Fredie Diez, Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Program, also graced the occasion, emphasizing the institution’s continued commitment to academic and cultural collaboration.

This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing students with global learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth. It also reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, fostering international cooperation and mutual understanding through educational exchange programs.

The StuMo Exchange Celebration not only closed a meaningful chapter in this international partnership but also left an indelible mark on everyone involved. As students parted ways, they carried with them not just memories, but newfound perspectives and friendships that transcend borders.
