Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM), through the Office for Corporate Partnerships-Center for Career and Placement, successfully held the Employer in the Classroom Program (ECP) titled “Stretching Your Potential: A PT Student’s Guide to What’s Next” last May 29, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Room R403 of Mapúa MCM Academic Building. This career-enriching session was attended by first-year and second-year BS Physical Therapy students and aimed to provide a bridge between academic learning and industry practice.
The event featured Ms. Celine Marie Chua, PTRP, Unit Head of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center at Brokenshire Medical Center, as the guest speaker. Ms. Chua shared her insights on transitioning from theoretical learning to clinical practice, emphasizing the importance of analytical thinking and adaptability in the field. She stated, “So, we have seen that the academe was on the fundamentals, the basics, but theory-wise however clinical, it’s still the same, but it is where you will encounter cases, conditions that you will not be prepared for. But what we do in the rehabilitation centers is to set back and analyze the condition first before going in the patient.” Her words highlighted the need for critical assessment and decision-making in real-life medical settings.
Joining her were notable guests from Brokenshire Medical Center, including Ms. Sheryl Dawn Bautista, ASD Training Officer, Mr. Cam Albania, Marketing Head, and Ms. Ketty Tresfuertes, Marketing Business Partner. Their presence and support reinforced the growing partnership between Mapúa MCM and Brokenshire Medical Center, reflecting the importance of industry-academe collaboration.
The program was designed to provide students with real-world insights from industry professionals, bridge academic knowledge with current trends and practices, and help students understand the competencies and mindset required in the workplace. It also aimed to encourage early career exploration, personal goal-setting, and foster strong partnerships between the institution and leaders in the healthcare industry.
This initiative is aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through meaningful engagement with industry experts, Mapúa MCM continues to uphold its commitment to providing quality education that prepares students not just for academic success but also for meaningful, impactful careers in the real world.
