IGACOS Awards Mapúa MCM for Pioneering Bamboo Research and Sustainability at the Pasidungog Pasalamat 2025

Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte – Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM) was honored with the Pasidungog Pasalamat 2025 Partnership Award during the 27th Founding Anniversary of the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) on March 6, 2025. The award ceremony took place at Club Samal Resort, Brgy. Caliclic, Babak District, IGACOS. 

As the sole academic partner recognized in this year’s awards, Mapua MCM was commended for its commitment to sustainable development through its research contributions to the Lunsod Lunsad: Creative Bamboo Hub for Innovation, Research, and Development program. The award was accepted by Dr. Gernelyn T. Logrosa on behalf of the Mapúa MCM and as the lead research consultant of the Bamboo project in Samal. 

The Lunsod Lunsad: Creative Bamboo Hub program aims to enhance sustainable bamboo production by identifying gaps in resource management, production practices, and market development for bamboo in IGACOS. Mapua MCM’s engagement underscores its dedication to grassroots-oriented research, community engagement, and sustainability, positioning the institution as a key driver of research-driven solutions for local development. 

The Pasidungog Pasalamat Awards celebrate institutions and individuals who have significantly contributed to the progress and sustainability of IGACOS. Mapua MCM’s recognition is a testament to its strong partnerships with local stakeholders to foster innovation and sustainability as well as research with relevance within the locality.
