The Lunsod Lunsad: Creative Bamboo Hub for Innovation, Research, and Development project marked a significant milestone with a celebration held this October 16, 2024, at the Grand Regal Hotel, Lanang, Davao City. The event brought together key stakeholders, including the City Government of the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS), Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM) Office for Research, Development, and Innovation (ORDI), the Department of Trade and Industry – Region XI (DTI-XI), and the Philippine Bats for Peace Foundation (PBPF). Grassroots bamboo growers and artisanal bamboo crafters also attended the said event.
During the event, Mapúa MCM ORDI, the project’s lead research partner, represented by Dr. Gernelyn T. Logrosa, conducted a ceremonial turnover of the research report titled “Resource Analysis, Management Practices, Production, and Marketing Needs for the Sustainable Establishment of a Bamboo Center in IGACOS.” She also led a short discussion on the research findings, providing insights into the region’s bamboo resources and key recommendations for establishing a sustainable bamboo hub.
The project focuses on enhancing sustainable bamboo production and driving innovation within the local bamboo industry. Through this collaborative effort, the project aims to address critical aspects such as resource management, production practices, and market needs for bamboo in IGACOS.
This event highlights a key achievement in positioning IGACOS as a center for bamboo innovation and sustainable development, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
