On February 6, 2025, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM) and the BPI Foundation formalized their partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the Mapúa MCM Global Classroom. The collaboration aims to promote financial literacy, equipping individuals with the knowledge to make informed decisions regarding saving, investing, and managing finances for a more secure future. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1: No Poverty and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, demonstrating the potential of partnerships between educational institutions and the private sector to foster sustainable development and economic growth.
A key benefit of this partnership is the Train-the-Trainers Program, aimed at enhancing the financial knowledge of Mapúa MCM faculty and non-teaching personnel. Through specialized training, participants will not only gain financial literacy but also learn effective teaching methodologies. These trained educators will, in turn, extend their expertise to partner communities, fostering greater financial awareness and resilience at the grassroots level.
The MOA signing was attended by esteemed representatives from both institutions. Representing Mapúa MCM were Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Alejandro H. Ballado Jr.; Dean of the Alfonso T. Yuchengco College of Business, Dr. Jose Paolo Y. Mack; and the Director of the Center for Service-Learning and Community Engagement, Marycon C. Delos Reyes. The BPI Foundation was represented by Executive Director, Ma. Carmina T. Marquez; Senior Program Manager for Financial Education and Art Management, Manolo Roberto L. Nava; and Program Manager for Financial Education, Gladys A. Malapo.
Through a collaboration of expertise and resources, Mapúa MCM and BPI Foundation reaffirm their shared commitment to building a financially literate and empowered society. This initiative not only aims to strengthen financial education within the institution but also to extend its influence to local communities, ensuring that financial literacy will serve as a foundation for long-term economic stability and growth — shaping a future where financial empowerment is within everyone’s reach.
