Moreover, integrating MOOCS in the courses allows students not only to experience a World-Class Mapúa Education but as well as learn from esteemed professors from top international universities.
“Engaging in MOOCS offered by MapúaMCM through Coursera helped me and my fellow students to learn even better and build up enough knowledge and skills,” Mark Steven Sucayan, an MapúaMCM Civil Engineering student, stated. “These free online courses helped me in terms of flexibility and career advancement, dispensing wide-range learning for students that is easy to access.”
Broaden understanding in various areas of studies
This institutional-wide program is provided to bonafide students, faculty members, and non-teaching personnel of MapúaMCM. Instructors also benefit from Coursera, as it refreshes their knowledge and expertise in their fields and allows them to learn various teaching strategies and craft effective online modules in the courses they are handling.
“As a teacher, I learned online teaching strategies and pedagogies employed by top international universities (Duke University, John Hopkins University, etc) that I can use for the upcoming school year. Being exposed to different teaching strategies will help me develop quality content and strategies that will, in turn, help my student learn from my subject.” Mr. Raffy Centeno, a member of the MapúaMCM Senior High School faculty, shared after finishing various courses on his specializations on data science and statistics.
“The topics have refreshed my previous knowledge on quantitative research tools which can help me in developing the standard guide for the conduct of research in MapúaMCM,” Dr. Gernelyn Logrosa, College of Arts and Sciences faculty, stated. “Coursera can also be integrated into the Research Methods course in the college departments.”
Gain specialized knowledge and skills
Furthermore, MapúaMCM’s non-teaching personnel are also given the chance to enroll themselves in these free online courses, engaging employees in lifelong learning. Through this, different departments have boosted their productivity in the workplace as well as increased their capabilities and skills to serve the MapúaMCM Community.
“The free online courses I completed boosted my career in ways that I developed a sense of accomplishment and at the same time career growth in executing my responsibilities as an MapúaMCM employee,” Mr. Charlymer Dingal, Guidance Facilitator, said. “It built extra confidence in myself to prove more of my worth as a person and as an employee of MapúaMCM. Opportunities such as speaking engagements or being involved in certain groups or organizations are something that I may expect from MapúaMCM.”
In addition to the Coursera program, iCELL (Institute for Credentialing Excellence and Lifelong Learning) is looking forward to greater opportunities and expansions in the future, primarily on knowledge and skills training made available not only to Malayans but also to anybody who pursues lifelong learning.
