As the digital world continues to evolve, equipping individuals with the skills to navigate it safely has become more critical than ever. On March 11, 2025 – Globe Telecom Inc. partnered with Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM) to host a Safer Internet Day campaign at the Mapúa MCM Auditorium, bringing together students from the College of Arts and Science and the College of Computer and Information Science. The event aimed to promote digital literacy, cybersecurity awareness, and AI readiness, reinforcing Globe’s commitment to responsible digital citizenship.
The event featured insightful discussions led by Mr. Juriz Galleto, Manager of Territory Trade Development, Territory 7, Davao Region, and Mr. Kevin Rey Placer, Territory Lead of Independent Lessor Management, Davao Region, both from Globe Telecom, Inc.
As part of the campaign, Globe conducted a Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) Workshop, a comprehensive learning session designed to equip students with the necessary skills to navigate the digital world safely. The workshop covered key topics such as online safety and cybersecurity, cyber wellness and responsible social media use, fact-checking and misinformation awareness, and safe online transactions. Students were taught how to protect their privacy, identify digital threats, combat fake news, and make secure online financial transactions.
The session also addressed the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its growing impact in the Philippines. The data presented at the event revealed a surging interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) across the Philippines, with AI-related searches reaching 7.8 million in November 2023. Additionally, 88% of Southeast Asian consumers now use AI in their purchasing decisions, while 70% of Filipino business leaders prioritize hiring AI-skilled professionals. The discussion also explored AI-powered tools, ethical concerns such as bias and fairness, and the Philippine government’s ongoing efforts to regulate AI use, emphasizing the technology’s growing influence on daily life and the workforce.
In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG #4 (Quality Education), SDG #8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG #9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG #17 (Partnerships for the Goals) the event emphasized the urgency of preparing students for an increasingly digital and AI-driven world. Through initiatives like this, Globe Telecom remains committed to promoting digital responsibility, equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate and excel in the evolving digital landscape.
