Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao held its first face-to-face Career Seminar and  Career and Internship Fair last January 26, 2023, and February 24, 2023, respectively at the Mapúa MCM Auditorium. Organized by the Office of Corporate Partnerships (OCP), this event provided opportunities for Mapúa MCM graduating students and alumni to apply and be recruited onsite as student interns and engage with the school’s industry partners for prospective jobs and future career opportunities.

Two representatives from JobStreet PH gave helpful advice and information via Zoom to the students. Mr. Philip Gioca spoke on Global Trends Survey and which jobs are in demand in line with their degree, and Mr. Rafael de la Cruz gave advice on what makes an effective resumé and how to gain confidence and prepare for interviews.

Lastly, the Department of Labor and Employment Region XI (DOLE) representative Dr. Lorraine Ugsang taught the students about workplace etiquette and ethics once they are in the workplace.

On February 24, 2023, the Career and Internship Fair took place. Split in two sessions for the whole day, the students and job-seekers had an opportunity to choose where they wanted to apply and spend their internship.

In the morning session, twenty-three companies presented what they had to offer. During the afternoon, Mapúa MCM graduating students and alumni were allowed to freely roam the venue to browse the booths and get an interview where they desired.

The employers set up booths in the Mapúa MCM auditorium where team members were available to answer questions from the students about the organization, its job openings, the application process, and other topics. Representatives of several companies from Luzon also flew into Davao City to set up booths for the fair.

Many of the booths offered alluring freebies to draw in students such as food, stickers, and merchandise displays.

“I am grateful that the OCP organized the Career and Internship Fair as it provided me with a boost of confidence. I was particularly thrilled when one of the partner companies expressed their interest in having me on their team,” stated Mr. Kenneth Von Golosinda, a 4th-year Computer Science student.

According to Ms. Braga, due to the positive responses gathered during the event, the office is considering conducting an annual career and internship fair for graduating students and alumni, which will be conducted prior to the start of the 3rd term of the school year.
