On December 14, 2019, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MapúaMCM) celebrated their Year-End Party for the faculty and staff with the theme: A Night in Havana 2019. An evening to celebrate all the hard work that had been done throughout the year — with exciting performances, raffle prizes, games, food and entertainment for all MapúaMCM employees to enjoy.
The event began with an energizing welcome from the Masters of Ceremonies, Sir Josef “Mika” Del-Corro and Ma’am Mary Catalbas. Then, a heartfelt Year-End Message from the President of Mapúa University, Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea, congratulating everyone on the two year journey of MapúaMCM thus far, and listing out many of the highlights of the year for MapúaMCM and its sister schools — Mapúa University and Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) like the iPeople Inc. and ACEducation Merger and the granting of Autonomous status for Mapúa University and MCL by CHED.
“, myself couldn’t be happier that… almost two years since the inception of MapúaMCM, we’re already here — we’re a hundred and fifty strong, and charging forward… We just have to be thankful for the past years and look forward to greater things in the coming year. Thereafter, performances from the Non-Teaching Personnel, College Faculty and Senior High School faculty representatives were showcased. The Non-Teaching with an amazing dance performance, College Faculty with a song mashup, and Senior High School with a large caroling and dance performance. An additional surprise performance was also presented by the College Faculty afterwards, wherein they performed a dance to a medley of songs throughout history, labeling it the Unified Power of Music. In between performances were fun games played like Mystery Box, Paint Me A Picture and Bring Me to keep the crowd engaged. Winner of the Mystery Box game was Ma’am Rhodessa J. Cascaro and Winning Department of Paint Me A Picture was the College Department.
Afterwards, dinner was served as the band — Gap 69 — took to the stage to perform a series of songs while attendees dined. After Dinner, the time to pick the Havana King and Queen commenced with the emcees calling for the nominees who were handpicked from the attendees. For Havana King — Anthony Toylo, Engr. Rolando Bitor, Shane Patrick Sordilla, Michael Calamba, Cristian Baway, and Jayderick Ferolin; and for Havana Queen — Ailene Callo, Juliet Nacua, Thea Elipio, Dona Bawiga, Rhea Lanticse and Lyra Ko. Each nominee was asked to do a catwalk together to judge the winner.
After the initial catwalk, more Door Raffle prizes were announced wherein names are drawn from the registered participants for a chance to win exciting prizes and more. Those who didn’t get a chance to win any of the raffled prizes had their own chance at winning some gifts through the Prize Dares wherein selected individuals would act on a drawn dare in order to win a prize.
Ms. Anita Ang of The Center for Guidance and Counseling (CGC) then went on stage to perform a special number for the crowd with her amazing vocal performances of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and You Got It All by the Jets.
Winners of the Major Raffle Prizes were Dr. Jean A. Sayman, winner of a Kyowa Glass Top Gas Stove; Marivic R. Daluz, who won a 3D Turbo Broiler; Gretchen C. Alagao with a Stoneware Grill; Liezel S. Lopez and Rebecca Angelica S. Villanueva with a Brikk Induction Cooker; Honey Jane Soriño with an American Home Microwave Oven; Dr. Gernelyn T. Logrosa with an Imarflex Induction Cooker; Karlo James Bringas, won an overnight stay at Spatial Condominiums and; Lastly, Mary Daphnie Baaco became the grand prize winner of an 8” Lenovo Smart Display. Winner of the event-round mnemonic mini-game, MapúaMCM Name It, was also announced as Cupidlyn Gravador with her mnemonic: More Campuses Malayan.
Thereafter, Engr. Dodjie Maestrecampo — Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao — gave his closing remarks, uplifting everyone in the achievement of the institution’s goals and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. Then, the presentation of awards and crowning of the Havana King and Queen was announced.
The crowned Havana King and Queen of the event was Michael Calamba, Program Chair of Electronics Engineering and Thea Elipio, Senior High School Faculty.
Other awards announced were the Early Bird Award handed to Mervin Jessie “MJ” Tejano of the Laboratory Management Office who organized and took care of the equipment, lighting and logistical needs of the event. The College Department won “Most Competitive” performing group for the evening — as they had prepared two special performances, and the Non-Teaching Personnel won “Best Group Costume” for the evening.
The night was capped off with a heart-pumping performance by the band, Gap 69, who urged the audience to dance the night away. Attendees mingled, took photos, and piled onto the dance floor to enjoy the rest of the evening.
