Malayan Colleges Mindanao Ready to Provide Flexible Online Learning Amidst COVID-2019

READY FOR THE 21ST CENTURY: MALAYAN COLLEGES MINDANAO DELIVERS DIGITAL EDUCATION EXCELLENCE IN THE NEW NORMAL

Malayan Colleges Mindanao, A Mapúa School, takes pride in delivering excellent technology-driven education and providing students with advanced facilities and the best online learning platforms in the new normal for learner-centered outcomes-based education.

Following Mapúa University’s legacy, Malayan Colleges Mindanao pioneered blended learning in Davao City back in 2018. Now, MCM has successfully transitioned to a flexible learning system to support students with or without proper internet connections at home — guiding them to navigate learning with ease in the new normal.

“MCM’s Flexible Learning System is guided by the ‘Equity First’ principles. Equity in education requires putting systems in place to ensure that every student has an equal chance for success, reducing course failures and dropouts. It requires understanding the unique challenges and barriers faced by students and providing additional support to help them overcome those barriers.” stated Engr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo, MCM’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

Continuing to pursue global standards, MCM nurtures 21st-century learners by providing various digital learning platforms that deploy its flexible learning system. One of its world-class facilities is the “MCM Digital” — the school’s learning management system powered by Blackboard Learn. MCM Digital is an all-in-one platform where teachers can design and create courses with relevant learning materials, and students can access their modules and grades anytime and anywhere.

“MCM Digital, powered by Blackboard Learn, provides our faculty members with the ease of control to design and curate digital courses that provide students a tailored experience, depending on their level of engagement and performance… MCM creates inclusive experiences to ensure that every student can engage in our courses by providing them with tools and resources that enhance the learning experience.” Mr. Josef Mika-el del Corro, Head of the Innovations in Digital Environments and Learning Solutions (IDEaLS), stated.

MCM also provides its students with a wide array of online materials through WileyPLUS, Panopto, Elsevier, Cengage, ALEKS, and more. Last January 2021, MCM was awarded the Wiley Digital Education Recognition Award together with its sister schools Mapúa University and Malayan Colleges Laguna, an award acknowledging institutions that are committed to delivering quality digital teaching and learning through utilizing Wiley-related digital resources, and institutions that adopt innovative means of education to achieve student success.

“I’ve been practicing digital learning for two years and counting since MCM allowed us to access both traditional and online learning. However this time, it is quite difficult and challenging , but I would like to take this new horizon of learning as an advantage. MCM’s online class is a fun and great tool for us students since it is self-paced learning…By this, I would like to encourage everyone be intimidated that you cope with online classes, but take this as an opportunity to learn something new.” Charlene Quindoza, a 1st Year BS Civil Engineering student from MCM shared.

MCM students are also highly encouraged to upskill and widen their knowledge outside of their strands or programs through Coursera and LinkedIn Learning, platforms that are free to access by the students.

In addition, MCM provides different perks and discounts to aid the learning of its students. A few of which are fully activated software from Canva, AutoCAD, and Adobe, as well as discounts from Apple, Acer, Lenovo, Apple Music, and Spotify. The school also provides discounted gadgets, internet connections, and load promos available to the students through partnerships with Smart, Globe, Sky, and more.

“MCM provided solutions to resource requirements for remote learning by forging partnerships with local Telecommunication companies and computer resellers to address our students’ connectivity and device problems. MCM also allows students to borrow the school’s iPads when necessary.” Engr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo added.

Moreover, MCM also makes it easy and convenient to pay for school fees through partnering with verified online payment channels such as GCash, Paymaya, M. Lhuillier, ECPay, and 7-Eleven CLiQQ.

MCM’s state-of-the-art campus facilities are retrofitted to abide by strict health and safety standards from local and international health and safety authorities. Once the government allows limited face-to-face classes, the school is equipped with proper equipment for sanitation, such as acrylic barriers and alcohol dispensers.

MCM is now open for Senior High School and College applications for SY: 2020-2021, 2nd Semester, and SY: 2021-2022 1st Semester. Moreover, MCM broadens its academic horizons by catering to Grade 7 students this coming SY: 2021-2022 — marking the opening of the Junior High School Department.
