Fourth-year Multimedia Arts (MMA) students from Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao held a charity event through a free webinar titled “Lights, Camera, Fashion 2021” to raise funds for the House of Hope Foundation for Kids with Cancer Inc. last October 23, 2021, via Facebook Live.

The class, led by 23 pioneering students in the MMA program, together with their mentor Mr. Gerald Saavedra, was able to impressively raise P22,500 through their online fundraising event.

Paghuman jud saamong first visit sa mga bata sa House of Hope, didto jud nako nakita nga kailangan nako maningkamot nga mangita ug daghang sponsors aron dako tag matabang sa mga bata ug mahatagan nato silag kalipay maski sa ginagmay na pamaagi.” said Louella Joyce Caduyac, the sponsorship head of the organizing team.

(After seeing the kids during our first visit at House of Hope, I knew that I needed to work hard to look for sponsors so that we can provide all the help that we can for the kids, so we may spark joy in their hearts even in little ways.)

The student organizers envisioned this event to be an opportunity for young creatives in the Philippines, especially in Mindanao, to be introduced to new insights and perspectives that will inspire and motivate them to learn more about the art of fashion and photography.

The event featured and invited six speakers to share their expertise and work experience, namely Joseph Bermudez (Manila), Ena Cuizon (Japan), Dominique Dy (Davao), AA Studio (Davao), and Gee Jocson (Manila).

For the event’s special guest performance, Yasmin Asistido, a social media star, serenaded the audience with her covers of OPM songs. In her quick interview, it was also revealed that she was a Multimedia Arts student while in college.

Before the webinar concluded, prizes were given away to the live audience who tuned in to the entire event. E-certificates were also sent through email to the pre-registered participants.
