Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao Spearheads SHS Strand Orientation to Learners in Mindanao

Webinar on Understanding SHS Strands: Mapúa MCM Elucidates SHS Education and After-Graduation Career Path to Learners from All Over Mindanao

Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao held an open-to-public webinar titled “Understanding the SHS Tracks and Strands Orientation” last March 6, 2021. The virtual orientation aimed to provide information on the different tracks and strands offered for incoming Senior High School (SHS) students. The webinar was attended by 185 students and parents on Zoom and reached 2,431 unique viewers on Facebook Live.

The webinar tackled the importance of enrolling in SHS, the SHS curriculum, and the career path for each strand. Dr. Flora Mae Yparraguirre, MapúaMCM SHS Principal and event speaker, also discussed the delivery of SHS education in MapúaMCM, covering the institution’s various modes, tools, and systems for learning such as the flexible learning system, the learning management system, and its expansive online learning resources.

“The main reason for conducting the Understanding the SHS Tracks and Strands is to—as much as possible—guide learners in choosing the right SHS strand before enrollment to avoid or reduce the case of shifting of strands,” Dr. Yparraguirre expressed.

A number of students admitted that they have minimal knowledge on the strands that interest them while some shared that they are only compelled to agree with their parents’ choices. During the event, Dr. Yparraguirre highlighted the importance of communicating the students’ strand preference to their parents since SHS is a stepping stone to the career they envision for themselves.

Participants and viewers conveyed their gratitude for the conduct of the virtual event as it had explained SHS in detail and provided valuable counsel on enrolling in the right strand.

“Congratulations to MapúaMCM for a very thorough orientation for SHS. It was very informative both for us parents and incoming SHS students,” Ms. Mary Antonette Jimenez commented on the event’s Facebook Live stream.

MapúaMCM continues to look into other avenues to communicate necessary information to learners, parents, and guardians on the programs offered by the school.

For incoming college students, MapúaMCM will be conducting “Turn Your Passion Into Your Profession” — a series of online College program orientations for new student applicants of SY: 2021-2022, starting with the College of Arts and Science (CAS) this coming Saturday, March 13, 2021.

Online program orientations for the College of Computer and Information Science (CCIS), College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA), and Alfonso T. Yuchengco College of Business (ATYCB) are scheduled for March 20, April 10, and April 17, 2021, respectively.
