MapúaMCM Students Place in SBG Week Contests 2020

#ProudMalayan: MapúaMCM Students Place in SBG Week Contest 2020

On January 23, 2020, 7 Senior High School (SHS) students from the Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Track of Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MapúaMCM) participated in Ateneo de Davao’s SBG (School of Business and Governance) Week Competition — an inter-school contest centered on general Business topics and subjects, aiming to showcase and enhance the existing skills of the various participating students.

The contest was held at the Arrupe Hall in Ateneo de Davao University Roxas Campus, where 8 schools competed in three contests — The Quiz Bowl, Case Study Analysis and Photo Contest. Our SHS students from Grade 12 sections Weber, Porter and Mayo split into three groups to participate in each event.

For the Case Analysis Competition, Sir Marlon Tabanao led his team composed of Veronica Marri F. Rocacorba, Lexus Josef L. Javines and Trisha Jenisse Q. Lee. They successfully took home 1st Runner Up.

Ms. Fidel Simbulas led the team for the Quiz Bowl — composed of Timothy C. Wagner, Sittie Assya G. Datu-Dacula, and Gabriela Marie F. Palatulan. This team took home Second Runner Up.

Ms. Jera Longkit coached SHS student, Austin Cruz, who took part in the Photo Contest and was able to truly flex his talent and creative vision.

Ms. Fidel Simbulas shared with us her experience and thoughts on the effectiveness of inter-school events such as this for the students.

“For me as their leader and teacher, I realized that this kind of competition will hone the students outside of the four corners of their classroom and they will be exposed to different schools in a competitive setting,” she shared.

Trisha Jenisse Q. Lee, participant in the Case Analysis Competition and student of Grade 12 – Mayo, also gave her input on what she had learned from the experience, retelling how nervous she had been with her fellow participants but ultimately gained a lot from participating.

“I learned a lot… that you should rely on teamwork, because if you only follow your opinion then it will bring you nowhere because you should also open yourself up to other ideas (to formulate more solutions).”

We are proud of you, Malayans!
