Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao Partners up with Wish 107.5 FM (Wish Bus)

On August 21 – 22,  from 10 AM to 4 PM Wish Bus 107.5 conducted their WISHcovery Season 3: Originals Auditions at the Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao Plaza. For those two days, people from inside and outside MapúaMCM could come in and audition with an original composition and sing inside of the Wish Bus. Many different talents from Davao City gathered to the venue, some even coming from our very own school as a few MapúaMCM students in their red and blue lanyards could be seen performing inside of the bus.

Wish Bus’ appearance at Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao didn’t just stop at the WISHcovery Auditions. As venue partners, Wish bus extended itself to collaborate with the school to celebrate the College’s yearly RevUp Party. On August 23, the Wish Bus stayed to provide entertainment and a one of a kind experience to College students attending the Bohemian-themed party. Excellent performers such as Maan Chua, a Mindanao-bred artist; Aya Andrade, semi-finalist of Wishcovery Season 2 and Industrial Engineering student at MapúaMCM; Anna Marie Guinsisana, grand-finalist of Wishovery Season 2; Ivy Arroyo, semi-finalist of Wishcovery Season 2; and last but not least, singer-songwriter of famous hits such as ‘Buko’ and ‘Magkabilang Mundo’, acoustic sensation Jireh Lim graced the MapúaMCM stage.

Through this mini-concert, UNTV were able to interview one of our own professors on the effectivity of music and events like this towards our students. Professor Neil Magloyuan, program chair of Computer Engineering, had this to say to interviewers:

“Maraming nakakagusto sa music kaya eto ang isang way na nagbibigay diversion sa kanilang isip to do good things … ”

Backstage with UNTV interviewers, Jireh Lim expressed his love for music and composing and how it helps him communicate what he feels:

“As a human being, di ako marunong mag-express through speaking or through words pero through singing mas-comfortable ako iexpress ang mga nararamdaman ko.”

After the amazing performances care of Wish 107.5, came the College students’ turn to amaze the audience with the Battle of the Bands Competition. The bands performed songs such as Oo by Up Dharma Down and Hanggang Kailan (Umuwi ka na Baby) by Orange and Lemons, enrapturing the audience and urging them to sing along to fan favorite pinoy rock hits. The winner of the Battle of the Bands was ‘Team Wiley-go’, with ‘Blackboard Champions’ as first runner-up. After the band contest, it was time to pick this year’s Mr. and Mrs. RevUp 2019. After hand-picking from around the audience and attendees the best dressed individual who embodied the bohemian spirit and theme, four students stood at the stage and were voted based on audience cheer meter. The winners came to be Mr. Arnel Rasheed Defensor and Ms. Rhea Manisan.

As our Mr. and Mrs. Rev Up 2019 stepped off of the main stage, it was time for our final performer to cap the night off with some heart-pumping music. Musician Zirrion took the stage and played his own original compositions for the audience to jive and dance to – ending the night as it started, with original music made from the heart.
